When things go wrong in our lives, we have the ability to choose how we react. When a rain storm comes over suddenly and you are caught in the rain, you can either:

  • Wait for the storm to pass
  • Complain about getting wet … or
  • Decide to dance in the rain

Of course, dancing in the rain is a metaphor for the tough times in life. Even though you might not believe it at the time, you DO have a choice. It’s all about how you look at things and finding a way to make the best of any situation. Sure, some things are harder to view in a positive light, but if you look hard enough, there’s always some small glimmer of positivity there.

Being grateful is a great place to start. For example, Clare had a car accident where the car was written off, but she walked away with only a few scratches (nobody else was injured). Clare could choose to be upset over the loss of her car, or she could choose to be very grateful that she walked away without any major injuries. The car can be replaced – there’s only one Clare! Ultimately, it is HER choice. What would you choose?

If ever you’re having trouble being grateful in a tough situation, try thinking about what didn’t happen.

Of course, literally dancing in the rain is not always a good idea – you could end up sick if you stay out there too long. However, looking for the positive in every situation can help bring a more positive view to your whole life.

Give it a try and let me know how you go.
